The game and the other events on its calendar now annually deliver an average direct annual economic impact of $24 million to the San Antonio economy.

The Valero Alamo Bowl also actively seeks neutral site games to bring to San Antonio and Hill has directed the local host sponsorship programs for such games as the Texas A&M vs. Army in 2006, the Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship in 2007 and the Notre Dame vs. Washington State game in 2009.

A St. Louis native, Hill graduated from Trinity University in 1991 with a degree in English and History. At Trinity, Hill was a four-year starter on the baseball team and earned All-Conference and team MVP honors his senior year. Hill has two daughters: eight-year-old Heidi and six-year-old Audrey, whom he enjoys coaching in their respective sports.

Valero Alamo Bowl Overview
In its 16-year history, the Valero Alamo Bowl has developed a growing track record of top ESPN ratings, capacity crowds and exciting games featuring two of the nation’s best college conferences in the Big 12 and the Big Ten.

The 2008 Valero Alamo Bowl lived up to its billing as #23 Missouri withstood a strong attack by #20 Northwestern and secured a 30-23 overtime win. The overtime victory was only the second in Valero Alamo Bowl history. The 2008 Valero Alamo Bowl was also one of only four non-BCS bowl games that featured two ranked teams.

National Exposure
The City of San Antonio annually receives tremendous national exposure during ESPN’s television broadcast of the game. The Valero Alamo Bowl received the honor of being the “most-watched bowl game in ESPN history” at the time in both 2005 and 2006. This year the Valero Alamo Bowl once again put San Antonio on a national stage as over 7 million viewers tuned into the ESPN telecast of Missouri vs. Northwestern and another 500,000 watched the re-broadcasts. The Valero Alamo Bowl has produced four of the Top 20 most-watched bowl games in ESPN history including the #1 and #4 slots.

Economic Impact
Since its inception in 1993, the Valero Alamo Bowl has hosted 1,131,739 spectators at 16 bowl games and three Big 12 Football Championships. Factoring in the out-of-town fans, the games have resulted in over $260 million direct economic impact on San Antonio and another $23 million in measurable media exposure from the 137 million viewers watching the national television broadcasts.

Contribution to Higher Education
The Valero Alamo Bowl has now contributed $52.2 million to higher education with $45.7 million in bowl team payouts and $6.7 million in Big 12 Championship team payouts in 16 years.

The Bowl also continued its local scholarship program in 2008 as 26 graduating high school seniors were selected from 53 Bexar County high schools to split $78,000 in scholarships, bringing the six-year scholarship total to $518,000.

Double the Fun in 2009
In addition to the bowl game, the Valero Alamo Bowl also strives to bring additional college football games to the Alamodome to positively impact San Antonio. After hosting Texas A&M vs. Army in September 2006 and the Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship in 2007, another neutral site game comes to San Antonio on October 31, 2009 when Notre Dame faces off against Washington State.

Bowl Committee Overview
As the Valero Alamo Bowl continues to grow in size and prestige, the bowl will continue to expand its reach and involve more of the local community. To this end, the Valero Alamo Bowl Committee was formed in 2002 to increase awareness of the bowl in the community.

The Valero Alamo Bowl Committee is a group of San Antonio’s dedicated business and civic leaders who work as the backbone of the Valero Alamo Bowl fundraising efforts and provide the leadership for the Valero Alamo Bowl’s annual festival of events. Members in good standing will receive consideration in the event any Board of Directors slots open up.

Persons interested in serving on the Valero Alamo Bowl Committee should call (210) 704-6388. The three official meetings for 2009 will be in late August, early October and mid-November.

Members are expected to attend as many of the scheduled Committee meetings each year as possible, volunteer their time to help one or more bowl events, provide fund-raising leads and have a fun time! Prizes will be awarded at each meeting and for members who reach certain fund-raising goals.
