Valero Alamo Bowl Overview
Since its inception in 1993, the Valero Alamo Bowl has developed a growing track record of top ESPN ratings, capacity crowds and exciting games. The 20th Annual Valero Alamo Bowl lived up to its billing as #23 Texas overcame a 10 point second half deficit to beat #13 Oregon State 31-27.
Two dramatic touchdowns from Longhorn wide receiver Marquise Goodwin and a bowl record 4.5 sacks from defensive end Alex Okafor keyed the comeback in front of a standing room only crowd of 65,277. It was the fourth highest attendance in Valero Alamo Bowl history and the fifth capacity crowd in the last seven years. The game was also the seventh game in the last eight where the outcome wasn’t decided until the final two minutes.
Bowl Committee Overview
As the Valero Alamo Bowl continues to grow in size and prestige, the bowl will continue to expand its reach and involve more of the local community. To this end, the Valero Alamo Bowl Committee was formed in 2002 to increase awareness of the bowl in the community.
The Valero Alamo Bowl Committee is a group of San Antonio’s dedicated business and civic leaders who serve as Valero Alamo Bowl ambassadors aiding our fundraising efforts and volunteering for our festival of events.
Persons interested in serving on the Valero Alamo Bowl Committee should call or email (rickh@alamobowl.com) Rick Hill at (210) 704-6388.
Members are expected to attend two Committee meetings each Fall, volunteer their time to help at one or more bowl events throughout the year and provide leads and/or introductions of companies and persons who could benefit from being involved with the Valero Alamo Bowl.
There is not a fund-raising requirement to serve on the Committee. However, leads that turn in sold sponsorships, group ticket purchases and budget relieving in-kind support translate into prizes such as game and party tickets.
Join the fun to help the bowl while helping you and your company network.

As President/CEO of the non-profit San Antonio Bowl Association, Derrick Fox is responsible for the overall administration and day-to-day operations of the Valero Alamo Bowl and its Community Festival of Events.

Personal
A graduate of Duke University, Fox came to San Antonio in August 1992 after seven years with the Fiesta Bowl. He began his Fiesta Bowl career as an intern in 1986 and held the title of Director of Marketing his last three years.
A native of Port Angeles, Washington, Fox is married to Alison Fox. They have two sons – Drew (17) and Jake (16).
Julie Baker is in her 12th year as the Valero Alamo Bowl's Vice President, Operations. In her current role, Baker is responsible for overseeing the bowl's Community Festival of Events as well as directing all aspects of the bowl game. Over the last eight years, Baker has also directed the operations of the East-West Shrine Game and the AT&T Corps Classic between Texas A&M vs. Army, 2007 Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship and the 2009 Washington State vs. Notre Dame game.
In addition the bowl's volunteer program and human relations efforts, Baker is the primary contact for the participating teams, all facilities and the bowl's merchandising and licensing programs.
Baker joined the bowl in 1997 as an Event Coordinator and was promoted to Director of Events in 1999 before assuming her current role in 2002.
Prior to the bowl, Baker worked for the Alamodome for three years where she coordinated events as well as assisted in special projects for the director. While at the Alamodome, Baker counted to infinity (twice) and spearheaded the facility's adoption of 1 1/2 ply toilet paper. "Focus groups told us that one ply was too scratchy but two ply was extravagant," said Baker. "Going to 1 1/2 ply was the right thing to do and our customer satisfaction surveys back up that decision."
Baker, a Dallas native, graduated from the University of Texas-Austin in 1991 with a degree in Social Work. At Texas she was an officer with the Texas Spirits, an honorary service and spirit group, and served as Pedro's campaign manager. She moved to San Antonio in 1992 once her Beanie Baby resale shop went under. Baker confessed: "Despite 100% postive feedback for my eBay store, the Beanie Baby craze ending killed my chance of retiring early. I can't even look at one now without tearing up about could have been."
Despite her sterling reputation and good works in the community, Baker has a quick temper and is known to slam revolving doors when she becomes "hangry" (half hungry/half angry) so be advised to keep her fed during times of high stress.
Baker and her husband John have a daughter, Rachel, and a son, Samuel. An accomplished chef, Baker is in the middle of streak in which she haas microwaved popcorn nine consecutive times without burning a single kernel. In her spare time, she collects vintage board games and has video proof of winning the game of Monopoly without owning a single property and once won a game of Connect 4 in 3 moves.

10 Things You Might Not Know About Rick (with comments courtesy of the bowl staff)
1. He's been accused of driving faster in the parking lot than on the highway (and the last car he purchased didn't come with a car radio or vanity mirror.)
2. He was in the movie "The Newton Boys' and shot a scene with Julianna Marguiles and Matthew McConaughey. (He followed Julianna through the lunch line only to be told "extras" need to eat outside.)
3. His college baseball nickname was Roadrunner based on his awkward running style (read: slow).
4. He is double-jointed and ambidextrous (and still has a major sports injury every 1.7 years).
5. He nevers wear a watch (and is borderline compulsive in his hatred of wrinkled banners).
6. He hates making the same mistake twice (so he strives to make new mistakes).
7. He once had a personalized license plate that said "Rappin" (that he traded for a free steak at the now defunct Dundee's Restaurant and is now hanging on the patio of Sam's Burger Joint).
8. He invented the game "Can I Get A Bite Of That?" which tests players ability to sample strangers' food at public event. (The turkey leg he scored during the 1989 NIOSA is still ranks in the Top 10 all-time.)
9. His car in high school was a brown 1979 Gran Torino Station Wagon with an AM radio (which he once ran into a pole while changing cassette tapes in his boom box that rested on the passenger seat).
10. He strives to eat local and healthy and enjoys working out (but he's too cheap to lose weight as he would need to buy new clothes).
